Six Things To Know Before You Buy A Couch

By Steven M. Fisher

1: COLOR RULES.

Color will be the first element you respond to, so look for colors that express your personal style or work with colors you already have in your room.

2: THE COMFORT TEST.

Make sure you like the feel. Bounce on the cushions. Test it out like it was already in your home.

3: THE DURABILITY TEST.

Bounce on it, wiggle the arms and lift the frame. Does it feel sturdy? Does everything feel strong and solid indicating good workmanship?

4: FEEL.

How does it feel? Check out the fabric. Are the seams straight? Does the fabric line up properly? Most importantly, do you like the way it feels when you sit on it?

5: THE PRICE.

Good quality sofas are available in all price ranges. Price and compare.

6: MEASURE IT.

The sofa shouldn't overwhelm your room, but also you don't want it to be dwarfed by the other pieces of furniture. - 16752
