Selecting The Right Computer Desk For Children

By Tony Maronyer

A person needs to keep several things in mind when purchasing a computer desk for children.

Be sure and take your child with you as you will need them to be a model to go by to get the best desk for your child. Here are a few helpful tips:

1. How tall is your child? The child should be able to sit at the desk with both feet flat on the floor. The keyboard panel should be at elbow height.

The computer desk should provide enough room for textbooks, keyboard, mouse and computer monitor. It should be ergonomic and comfortable above all other things like color or style.

2. It is important to select a computer desk that provides enough room and storage for all activities. This includes working or playing at the desk. It is important to keep in mind that the child has to sit in front of the desk and should therefor test the desk extensively.

3. Expensive or inexpensive? There is a wide range of styles of computer desks. You can spend as little as seventy five dollars to several thousand dollars on computer desks. Keep in mind the age of the child, and if the child has a destructive nature.

If the child is five years old, buy something that is on the inexpensive side because you would need to change the desk every year or so until the child becomes a teenager. Once they become a teenager, then you would not need to change desks very often.

4. Computer desks are made of wood, plastic, metal and glass. Plastic computer desks are usually the least expensive types of desks that can be purchased. They are however not as durable as the other types.

Desks made from Hardwoods, such as oak and walnut, would be very durable and will last a lifetime. Those made from metal, are very durable and can last many years. You will see wear and tear on them sooner than wood, because the finish on the metal could peel off and will look bad after a few years.

5. The computer desk should provide enough room for computer equipment like printers, scanners or routers. The size requirements of laptops and desktop computers are very different and should be considered.

There is a huge market for computer desks. We live in a computerized world. Children are introduced to computers in kindergarten.

As soon as the child receives a first computer a computer desk should be purchased to introduce the child to ways to properly work with the computer. - 16752
