A few days ago, I went over to a friend's house in light of research. My friend, quite recently, had his concrete floor polished, so I took the chance to take a peek at it. He did seem a bit too excited about the floor he had polished. In any case, he made a really nice cup of cappuccino with the new espresso machine he got.
I went over and the first thing that caught my eye was the floor. Maybe it was because I was used to seeing the old ugly flooring he had. It was indeed beautiful. It was clearly the most noticeable thing in the interior, even though he had everything else newly renovated.
That is a bad thing. One would want your floor to complement your whole house, not stand out from the rest of it. It wasn't like my friend didn't try; the house had a standard motif that even the polished concrete floor followed. But even then, polished, concrete floor is simply too glamorous.
I will see what the other types of polished concrete floors are before making a final judgement on this flooring type. But right now, I can say that this type of floor is much more suited for commercial areas like hotel lobbies, industrial centers, even in schools. Concrete floors have a glamorous quality to it which does not really suit a residental place. So avoid this as much as possible. Unless your home is glamorous in itself, and in which case achieves a correct sort of balance.
Really, it wasn't bad. My friend's home was still pleasing to the eye and did look good. It seemed like he wanted his floor to stand out, which it did. I give him his due for the inexpensiveness in which the floor cost him. This'll be worthwhile as well if concrete polishing lasts with very little upkeep. Now for the test of time. - 16752
