Marble Tile Installation For Dummies

By Alix Montoya

You can save a lot of cash with your a great looking marble floor if you just install them yourself. It's not really hard to do and you might even find yourself having fun with all the work, if you like working with your hands. You are only going to need some patience and hard work and you will be able to finish the job completely.

Have some of the materials ready before you start working. You are going to need a bucket, a plywood, some pieces of cloth and some fasteners, a level and a trowel. You need to ready some safety goggles, working gloves and a dust mask. And don't forget the most important material of all, the marble tiles and a bag of cement.

When you're cutting the tiles, cut across the natural fissures of the marble. The rock usually cracks along these lines and they break easily if you cut it along them. If you want to play it safe, cover the entire tile in masking tape before cutting it with your wet saw. Place it on the plywood and cut slowly and carefully. Wear your safety equipment before attempting any of these.

Lay down the marble tiles firmly. Don't try to push them or slide them into place. The adhesives underneath and the cement usually gets built up on the sides and this means a lot of trouble for you. Use spacers to keep them equidistant and make sure their joints are straight using a level. After several hours of labor, you can enjoy your elegant new marble floor.

All you have to remember is work carefully. Marble floors are beautiful but they are quite too hard to handle sometimes. Just keep in mind that when you are done, you won't look at your floor the same way again. - 16752
