Drifter - Bringing Together Form and Function in a Simple T-Shirt

By Carissa Jenner

The Drifter clothing company began in 2002 with the aim of becoming a simple clothing manufacturer that would focus on functionality, style, and comfort. Starting with the simple T-shirt, they break it down and begin to put the pieces back together to create a new product that is reflective of their own brand of creativity and artistry.

First, there is the men's FW 08 clothing line. This line of clothing is smaller than the others and only features 8 designs to choose from at the moment. Altogether there is the Scribe, Chief, Siren, Glory, DOA, and Seer designs. Scribe and Chief are long sleeved shirts that feature the double layered look which appears as if a short sleeved shirt is being worn over a long sleeved shirt. It's a popular style among the youth age group. Each features the signature Drifter image and is made from 100 percent cotton. Glory is a steel grey short sleeved shirt with an image that represents the ongoing power struggle in Columbia.

The Men's SS 08 line carries a much larger selection to choose from, such as the popular Godspeed design which is an old favorite that was brought back due to popular demand. Also available in the line is the Quentin, a simple blue polo with a small image on the top back. Twenty Seven is a short sleeved navy T-shirt which features a skeletal design as a tribute to the rock stars who died at the age of 27. Pale Horse is a simple white T-shirt that has a large horse design and barely noticeable stripes. Some other T-shirts that are available in the Drifter SS 08 clothing line are the Catalyst, Meter, Ex-Libbers, Bully, Jared, Progress, and Venom.

Finally, the women's SS 08 line of clothing includes a diverse line of tops. Besides the long sleeve Godspeed shirt, there's the Tropics which features a grey, sleeveless peasant top design. Psyche comes in a special coral color and features a wide neck with a drawstring. There are also the Pebbles and Unwritten designs which are more of a standard T-shirt design. Pebbles is white with a light blue, feminine design, and Unwritten is blue with a small flower image. There are many other designs to choose from such as Hey, Input, Striking, Tulips, Dawn Trailing, and Space Suit.

Simplicity is always their main focus as they base each shirt design off of the original T-shirt which they consider to be the zenith of clothing design. Drifter is available for both men and women. The Drifter line of clothing is an ongoing process, with new designs being introduced and older designs disappearing every day. - 16752
