Compact Digital Camera Reviews: Finding the Real Ones

By Evan Heelie

Are you considering buying yourself, or even someone else, a compact digital camera? Reviews will probably be your guide in making a good choice. But how do you find the good, credible ones, when a lot of the so called "reviews" out there are simply designed to lure you into buying? Everybody has the right camera.....

The obvious choice would be to steer clear of any reviews done by, or connected to, the manufacturer. Any manufacturer would obviously sing its own praises, because they have to believe in what they offer. You will find, in such cases, that the "review" is actually a very well presented sales letter.....

This does not mean you should leave any website with a link to a sales page. But you should be careful if all links point to one single manufacturer. Anyone spending all the time and money involved to set up a professional website is entitled to make money off it, but be careful of biased reviews. If a manufacturer is directly involved, the negative points are likely to be withheld.

So where do you find real, quality compact digital camera reviews? There are a number of options: Look for comparison sites (they compare different brands), photographic journals, or go offline and buy a photographic (or computer) magazine. These reviews tend to be objective, normally done by professional photographers who have earned their credibility. They have standards tests and methods to evaluate new cameras.

Look for reviews that simply do not pull any punches. Real compact digital camera reviews will evaluate a standard set of performance features, and give an honest opinion on each. Unless the camera in question costs a fortune, and is better than anything ever released, there has to be something that comes up less than perfect. Not only does it make for interesting reading, but you will also know of any limitations or shortcomings you may want to avoid.

There is a multitude of possibilities available, increasing every day. You have to decide how you will spend your money. The vast amount of "fake" compact digital camera reviews will have you spending some time searching. But you will have to, in order to make a sensible selection. By evaluating the review, you will be able to separate facts from sales pitches, and be properly prepared by the time you enter the photographic store around the corner. You won't fall for the salesman's pitch, because you have already decided. - 16752
