Just about Anyone who has been reading any of what I have been writing over the past few years, Knows I fight for Bikers Rights , Safety and Unity. In the past few months my big concern has been the new Biker Movies and TV shows coming out like "Hell Ride" and "Sons of Anarchy" I knew these shows would have people wanting to join Motorcycle Clubs for all the wrong reasons! One thing I know will happen is many people will go out and put patches on there backs and think they are now a Motorcycle Club and start acting the way they saw the Clubs in the Movies act. As I have stated in other articles, most Clubs for many years have been working for the betterment and unity of the Motorcycle Club world. Most MC's want to put the Hollywood Biker Gang image way behind them. They want to focus on the Brotherhood that is the heart of all Motorcycle Clubs.

A lot of Motorcycle Clubs make really good money selling their Support Shirts and gear. Over the past few years I have seen a lot of large chain department stores selling T-shirts that are Dangerously Close to the Colors/Patches of Some of the worlds Major Clubs. It does not take much for one to assume these Stores know what they are doing and they just do not care about the people who buy these shirts or any of us in the biker world, All they care about is the cash flow! When Motorcycle Clubs contact these stores about copyright infringement the response from most if not all of these companies to the clubs is one of you don't count or matter! When I see a person who knows nothing about the biker world wearing one of these shirts I understand that person just does not know better, But when I see a person who is a biker wearing one of these shirts I let him know "He is selling us all out " There are too many who use the excuse they are only weekend warriors! I understand cash runs the world so these companies are going to try to skate the line by changing these shirts just enough so they can't be sued under copyright laws and all the wannabe bikers will buy these shirts and wear them! In my opinion it is a total kick in the nuts to every biker out there!

Well as if those shirts where not bad enough I was recently informed of a jean company who has come out with T-shirts that are Motorcycle Club Member T-shirts of Fictional Motorcycle Clubs ! Go to the websites emoda.com/item.asp?prodid=129470 and emoda.com/item.asp?prodid=129464 to see these shirts. Anyone from the new rider to the old time Club Member who saw a person wearing one of these shirts could easily think that person is a member of a real Motorcycle Club . These Shirts are made by some foolish corporation who probably does not care what they are doing ! The shirts go for around $52-$65 ! For $20 you can go out and buy a real Motorcycle Clubs Support shirt and Support the Biker World. The final insult to all in the Biker world is on the left sleeve there is a Diamond, this leads me to believe that the Manufacturers of these shirts knows at least a little bit about what they are doing. From the pictures I can not see if it says 1% inside the Diamond, But even if it does not it can be mistaken for one. The 1% Diamond is supposed to mean you are part of an elite Motorcycle Club the best of the best, and if you are wearing the shirt of a fictional Motorcycle Club that you paid $60 for, Well then you do not even rank as high as a wannabe Biker in my Book!

Motorcycle Clubs don't always get along, But we all have always taken great pride in what we are and what we stand for! The true Bikers are the ones who know what "Freedom" really is! We are the ones who feel it for the rest of the world every time one of our rights gets taken away. The mass population walks around with their head up their butt not caring about the things they are no longer allowed to do!

My one concern about posting this is that more people will see these shirts and buy them and wear them! If you respect anything about the Biker world not only will you not buy these shirts you will speak out and let those who make these shirts know you think this is an insult! When you are at a store and you see a biker looking shirt that looks like the patch of a Motorcycle Club you will speak out, Even if its a club you are not a fan of ,It is still an insult to all Clubs and all true Bikers! I remember hearing as a child that all Bikers where "Brothers in the wind" No matter what they ride. I always figured that even if you did not like your Brother you would always fight along side him when he was under attack! I feel this is an attack on all of us at the very heart of what we are ! So I ask those out there that came before for me, what they think and what do we do next ?

We all know by now that home owners have a hidden savings account...its called HOME EQUITY.

Home equity is the value of your home minus the remaining mortgage balance which is outstanding. While you live,and sleep in your home worrying about debts or wishing you could refurnish the living room you may be sitting on the cash that will grant your wishes.

Would You Want an Equity Line of Credit?

Unlike a typical loan which deposits a set amount of money in your account and begins charging you interest and payments at a fixed rate until repaid, a line of credit acts as a revolving credit (like your credit card). You do not need to pay interest on the full amount you have access to -- you only pay for what you have used. Also, like a credit card, when the debt is repaid you still have access to the credit.

Using an equity line of credit (also known as a Home Equity Line of Credit or HELOC) gives you greater flexibility with the least cost. Not only can you access the credit only as you need it, but your monthly payments will reflect only the balanced used. The less used the lower your payment.

An equity line of credit is great when you don't have a large fixed amount to spend in one place that will take many years to repay and you want access to the credit without asking for a new loan when you have paid it back.

What can the HELOC be used on??

While you can no doubt find numerous uses for your line of credit, here are samples of the more common reasons for obtaining an equity line of credit.

Consolidate Debts

Use the home equity line to reduce or consolidate your other debt. Not only will this help your credit score...but it can help reduce your interest payments as well.

Second mortgage

Use the equity line to pay off or down your second...in some cases paying down will also allow you to reduce the interest rate. (which is normally higher on a second)

Add too, remodel, or travel.

You may use your line of credit for renovating, buying new furniture or a car, or taking a vacation with less interest payments than using a credit card or store card making it a wise choice for large purchases.

The Down Side of a Line of Credit.

Now it isn't just 'easy money'. It does have risk to it.

In some cases you can't use a HELOC to repay certain loan types. some types of student loans, small business loans, etc. You need to review the "target debt" you wish to use it on before taking out the equity line of credit.

Other items like cars and vacations may seem like a good idea to buy with your home equity line of credit, but with the ability to pay only the interest you may find the motivation to pay off the debt is lacking and end up owing for items that have lost their value or were consumable. Plan to pay off the debt quickly for the most advantage.

Now refinancing a second mortgage may not be a good idea depending on interest rates and your repayment terms. While lines of credit take advantage of current low interest rates you may find that your regular loans protect you better from fluctuating rates if you will not be paying the loan down in the next few years.

We all understand the freedom and relief that comes from having access to extra funds. For both those emergencies, as well as last minute purchases. However its important to understand the risks as well as benefits. - 16752

Canon responds to black dot and banding concerns

Canon came out with a statement concerning questions that have been raised about the EOS 5D Mk II. Their message addresses the widely talked about 'Black Dot' and 'Vertical Banding' problems that have been reported by existing and potential owners who have been looking at the camera's output. Canon says it is looking into both issues and is working on developing measures to reduce or eliminate these incidents.

To Owners of the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

Thank you for using Canon products.

We have learned that some users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera have identified two types of image quality phenomena that appear under certain shooting conditions.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) 2. Vertical banding noise

We are currently investigating and analyzing the causes, and examining measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena by providing correction firmware. An announcement will be made on www.canon-europe.com as soon as measures have been determined.

Details of the phenomena and shooting conditions under which they are likely to occur are as follows.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or above on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made.

2. Vertical banding noise If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background. ? Vertical banding noise is not noticeable if the recording format is set to sRAW2. ? Vertical banding noise does not occur if the recording format is set to RAW or JPEG. ? Noise can be reduced if C.Fn II-3: Highlight tone priority is set to 0: Disable.

A Preview of Adobe Photoshop CS4

It appears as Adobe are evolving they're getting better and better. CS3 showed us new features such as non-destructive smart filters, quick selection, 3D compositing, enhanced RAW image processing and HDR support.

The new Creative Suite is designed to meet different challenges such as effective collaborations between designers and developers, embracing new media, reinventing publishing and embracing the explosion of connected media. In fact Chad Seigel, Group Manager for Creative Suite said: "Adobe are trying to break barriers and integrate all products."

Improvements to Photoshop CS4 include an enhanced user interface with the entire application enclosed in the frame, meaning that dual monitor users can have more than one application running. The workspace switcher is for swapping between applications such as Camera RAW 5 and Bridge.

Some welcome improvements include zoom ratio which is less likely to show jagged or pixelated lines and also boasts a flicker free zoom. You can also now rotate the canvas without jagged lines and the brush size can be previewed on the document. This means that when the tool is placed over the image it can be moved in size and allows you to see it before you use it.

Another tool that has been improved is the Dodge/Burn tool; when adjusting the shadows, midtones or highlights the tool no longer will impose on the other two. When adjusting the saturation on the sponge tool it will no longer move out of acceptable gamma.

Adjustment now has its own dedicated window that includes all the tools found in the area such as levels, curves, brightness/contrast and exposure. Another change is the preview window which is now in the tab instead of a new window that overlaps the image. Because of this change your picture can be viewed in its entirety and as an added bonus tools such as curves can be adjusted directly on the image for localized amendments.

The icons are also simplified for well-organized use; now you can see what you want to do much faster than before.

One particular new feature I like is content aware cropping. The tool works by first masking the areas you wish to retain in the picture. The image can then be resized and the parts that are protected won't be cropped into. The program will start to remove areas in between which is an amazing feature to see and use.

An improved blend layer mode has been added and is great for procedures such as focus stacking. The program automatically adjusts the exposure and color so there's no need to mess about first.

The images must be loaded in as layers and highlighted. Once you have done that click on Edit>Auto blend layers and the images will be composited together. The process can take some time so be patient.

This process can also be useful if you want to create HDR images if you prefer the ones without the ethereal effect that most systems produce.

Photoshop Product Manager, Bryan Hughes, is quite adamant that this isn't a HDR tool as it doesn't give a full high dynamic range in all areas so the familiar ethereal look of a HDR image is absent. He added that if need be it could be described as a clipped version of HDR.

Photoshop CS4 Extended also features 3D support. Two dimensional images can be changed to 3D by giving them x, y and z co-ordinates and these images can also be wrapped around imported 3D images. Photoshop CS4 also works in conjunction with Google 3D warehouse where thousands of 3D images are available to import. Merging a 2D image onto a 3D image is very easy with the only command being the Merge button. The 2D layer will then acquire all the 3D attributes such as decay detail, colour and reflections. The 3D image can be manipulated as well and you can also enjoy features such as creating cut-outs, adding detail or changing colours to the interior of the cut-out.

As an added bonus, a feature has been added for help with people who are color blind. Colors in Photoshop CS4 can now be adjusted for true color blindness.

One feature missing in CS4 is the quick tools from the image window bar. When you've opened an image, right clicking on the header bar has brought up five options of duplicate, image size, canvas size, file info for metadata and page set up. I often used these, especially file info, and to find it's not there has added time to my workflow.

Regardless, at the press release for Photoshop CS4 I was incredibly excited when I saw the new features. The newest features including auto blend and content aware cropping are amazing. I also enjoy using the localized adjustments on Lightroom 2 so it'll be really beneficial on Photoshop CS4.

Check out the upgrades box and see if you'll use all those extra features. Add to that the efficient zooming and 89 percent less drag on the mouse making it move across the screen faster.

Bear in mind that the list is for the Extended version which supports the 3D applications. If you don't need those then don't bother with Extended but as far as I'm concerned this new version is the best one yet. - 16752

Why would someone not already have driver's insurance? Well, they may live in a city in which their own transportation is not needed, so they use public transportation. This may mean that they don't have a car. However, they may have their license.

Most individuals who have cars have driver's insurance. But once in a while there is that person who comes to the car rental establishment and they don't have a car. That means they don't have insurance. So what does that mean for them when wanting to rent a car? Are they going to be able to rent the car? The answer might surprise you.

No insurance?

So let's say you walk into your local car rentals place and you tell them you don't have insurance. Do you think they're going to look at you like you're a terrible person? The truth is that they won't. They're not going to look at you like you're terrible because there are plenty of people who walk into their establishment and they don't have insurance.

Here is how they do it:

- The car rental establishment will make a copy of your driver's license. From there they will then tell you what your options are. They may also offer you other things that you may or may not need, so make sure you're not going to end up paying for things that you don't need.

- If you tell them that you don't have driver's insurance, then they will let you know that they have an insurance plan for you. You will have to purchase that insurance plan if you don't have insurance of your own or your insurance doesn't cover rental cars.

That's another issue - that some insurance companies may not cover rental cars. This has to do with what sort of insurance you have taken out with them. If you have a full coverage plan, you can expect that a rental car is going to be covered. If you have a liability plan, you need to look closely at what you have purchased. Either way, you're going to have to provide the car rental business with a copy of your insurance card.

But if you don't have an insurance card, that's alright. They will offer you their own insurance, which will cover you while you rent the car. The prices will vary based on the business you decide to do business with. So if you don't have driver's insurance, make sure you make this part of the deal when shopping around for a company. Make sure you find the best rate or you may find you're paying more for insurance than what you need to.

Problem solved

So now you can see how easy it is to solve the problem. If you don't have driver's insurance, that is definitely not an issue. If you have a license, then you're in business. The only reason why someone should have to worry about not being able to rent a car is if they are too young or they are not licensed to drive. Other than those two things, you should be fine when it comes to renting a car anywhere in the world. A Bikers Tale: Son Of Pappy

Many of you out there probably do not know that I L.J. James am the Son of Pappy (Freelance writer on the Biker Lifestyle) ! Hell I didn't know till 1986,Well I knew I just didn't know him! Pappy an my Mother got separated when I was young and I didn't see Pappy from around 76 till 86. When I met him he wasn't even known as Pappy yet! That came later.

I had lived with my Mother an step-Father on Long Island in NY till the Summer of 86. I had always been into Bikes and the life style. Many times after getting into some kind of trouble I would hear the saying "He is just like his Father". Little did I know at the time just how true it really was! After getting into some more teenage trouble (you know the deal Drinking,Staying out late, getting brought home by the cops 2 or 3 times). My Mother figured it was time for me to meet my Father. So in the Summer of 86 at the age of 15, I found myself flying up to Rochester NY to meet my Father!

When I first met Pappy He owned a large House and He rented out rooms in the house to College kids and other Bikers. Almost as soon as I got there Pappy started teaching me to Ride a Motorcycle and probably just as important if not more, what the words Respect, Honesty , Loyalty and Brotherhood mean in the Biker World. I still remember clearly one time at a John Fogarty Concert. Me, Pappy and a few other Bikers where in the parking lot looking at Motorcycles. I saw this really cool bike with this paint job that was just unbelievable, I went to touch it and Pappy grabbed my hand looked at me in the eyes and told me "Never touch another mans Bike without his permission" and till this day I never have.

The House Pappy owend was well known by many of the Bikers in the area and was the place many large party's where held, It was not uncommon to find a bunch of Bikers sleeping in the living room any given morning. These Bikers where family to me and when they said "He is just like his Father" it gave me a feeling of over whelming pride! I have always loved hearing the stories these true Brothers of the biker world would tell me. I feel the old Biker stories need to be saved and told over and over again.

New Motorcycle Riders are learning about Biker history from old 1960's Biker Gang movies that have no historic truth to them. Just like with any culture if you lose your true history you lose what you really are! I feel the only way to return the Biker world to its true origin is to keep the old stories alive ! Too many "Bikers" complain that the younger Motorcycle Riders of today have no idea what it means to be a Biker! Well I think maybe the problem is that some of the older Bikers never really knew what it meant to be a Biker, Because if they did they would know its their job to teach the next generation! A new Motorcycle Rider must know what the Spirit of Biker Brotherhood is before he can truly feel it and become a part of it. (Maybe that's part of why I became a writer?)

I said at the Beginning of this story Pappy was not yet known as Pappy and I would tell you how that came to be. Well if you remember the Summer of 86 you will remember the Karate Kid Movie was a Big Hit and was on HBO like 10 times a day,Well as far as I could remember I had never called anyone Dad or Father or anything like that. In the Karate Kid they called each other miyagi san and Daniel san! Well thinking I was clever I started calling my Father "Pappy san", He in turn started calling me Son of Pappy and soon after everyone started calling Him Pappy!

Now many of You maybe wondering why the Hell am I telling you all this. Well like I have said there are many Motorcycle riders these days that have no clue what Biker Brotherhood really is. I think it is important that they know this is not something you buy into, But something you grow into. Too many buy a Motorcycle and then do nothing but talk, They are only there for you if you have something to offer them. There are very few true Bikers left, Bikers are being replaced by Motorcycle enthusiasts and part of it is our own fault! I write this story in hopes it will help spread the word that only the true old School bikers can teach the younger generation the true meaning of Biker Brotherhood.

true Biker who feels the Brotherhood Spirit always has some older Biker to thank for passing that Spirit onto him! I thank my Father Pappy, My Uncle Trey and all the other Bikers Who helped to raise me to be the Biker I am, I am very glad to have been raised by them and I am very Proud to have grown up to be one of them !

Lake George NY, A Great Place

As a Biker I love to take long Rides on my 2007 Harley Davidson, Nightrain. Some times a trip to Connecticut where one has the freedom of choice to decided if they want to wear a Helmet or not is a great place to go. Often I head up to the NY Catskill Mountains, Where a Burger and a Beer at Nicks Waterfall House in West Conesville can be the perfect end to a day of Cruising threw the Mountains.

Then there is another of my Favorite places to ride to, The Lake George NY area. My Uncle has a small Cabin in the Mountains right outside of the town of Lake George where I often stay. The area has some great long and winding roads for riding, These roads will relax even the most stressed Motorcycle rider.

There is so much history to the Lake George NY area. While on a trip one year riding around with no real destination in mind, I found myself in front of Fort Ticonderoga (fort-ticonderoga.org). Being very interested in American History I had to stop in and take the tour. The Fort was built between 1755 and 1759 and has plenty of stories to tell. It had a big roll in the American Revolution. As I walked around the Fort the I could almost imagine I had traveled back to the 18Th Century, The things I learned reminded me of the sacrifices our fore Fathers made to secure the Freedoms we enjoy and let slip threw our fingers every day.

Another thing I like to do is ride on some of the less traveled roads. Riding on a road where you see nothing but Forests and small Waterfalls for miles is very relaxing. I like to search out small little Dinners and eatery's, Stopping at them and trying some of the foods they have to offer.

I recently met up with my Mother, Sister, Brother, Nieces, Nephew and other members of my family at the Lake George Escape Evergreen Resort Campgrounds (LakeGeorgeEscape.com), I found it a great places for me to relax for a few days. There where plenty of activities for the kids and many activities I could enjoy with the kids. In the resorts game room I won my Nieces and Nephew many prizes and I played (or maybe Battled is a more accurate word) Air Hockey with my younger Brother in the game room for hours. The resort has a pond and two pools to Swim in. Each week at the resort during the Summer has a thyme and while we where there it was Halloween week. The Camp Grounds has Nightly Hay rides around the Camp Grounds and since it was Halloween week my Brother came up with the idea of throwing out candy to all the kids as we took a Hay ride around the grounds one night. The Cherry on the top of this great resort has to be the on Grounds full service Tiki style Bar where most Nights they had a DJ to help keep the party going!

Many other things I have stopped to enjoy while riding around and staying in the Lake George area is White Water rafting, Hiking and many Trips to Six Flags Great Escape & Splash Water Kingdom. The park was known as Storytown USA when it first opened in 1954. As a Kid I used to love to watch the gun fights in its old western area known as Ghost town. The park may be much larger now and have many modern day Rides and attractions, but all the old Story town, Jungleland and Ghost town areas from the 50's and 60s are still there! Then of course there is the town of Lake George it self with many great stores for shopping including a new shop I found last year called DILLIGAF's. Many Arcades, Museum's, Para Sailing, Night Clubs and Many Places to eat including some Waterfront Restaurants. Now in my opinion no trip to Lake George can be Complete without a Paddle wheel Cruise on the historic and scenic Lake George itself. The lake is known as the Queen of American Lakes. There are Two maybe three Companies you can use, But I recommend you take your trip on the Lake George Steamboat Company's (lakegeorgesteamboat.com) Minnie-Ha-Ha. I have Pictures of me getting on this Boat with my Family that go back many years.

As Bikers We are always looking for Great places to ride to alone or with our friends and family that offer both great riding areas and many things to do. I have found Lake George to be a great area for both!

Why are there differnt rules for Motorcycle Clubs

Motorcycle Clubs that have lots of Chapters have problems where Government agencies try to say they are Criminal organizations. Now if you are part of something say a Business Association and you need a dentist and you have a dentist as part of your Association most likely you are going to work with him.

Now lets say your part of an Association with 20 chapters and 1 guy from your group deals drugs. Then he meets another guy from a different chapter of your Association who deals drugs too. He then meets another guy from another chapter of your group who deals drugs and then a few more and soon you have 10 guys from 10 different chapters of your group dealing drugs together across the country. Now again this could be any type of group.

Now lets say those ten guys get caught dealing the drugs. When in came time to arrest them would all the Members of the Association all across the Country get arrested ? Let me be very clear here. My question to you is, Is the whole Association guilty of a crime or is it just the ten who who committed the crimes?

Well the answer is a little crazy, If it is a church group well then it is only the ten people dealing the drugs that are Guilty. If it is members of a Police force, The Answer could be no one is Guilty! But now if it is a Motorcycle Club then the answer always seems to be everyone is Guilty!

Why does there seem to be different sets of rules that depend on who you are or who you are Associated with? We all know that in reality only the ten guys who committed the crimes are guilty. Just like any other group in the world a Motorcycle Club can have members who Commit Crimes. Why should there be harsher sets of rules and penalties because the Members of a Club happen to enjoy riding Motorcycles?

Catskill, NY Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Festival 2008

Most of us know that when the first settlers came to America they where following a dream! What many don't know is that a lot of those dreams where inspired by paintings of the Catskill Mountains. At the beginning of this country's history artists where mesmerized by the beauty of these mountains and painted great pictures of them. These pictures where sent and sold all over the world and they had a big part in creating what later became know as the American dream.

Fast forward a couple Hundred years to September 10th through the 14th 2008 and now what draws hundreds of American Bikers every year to the Catskill Mountains is the Blackthorne Resort in East Durham and the Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally. This event which is a weekend get away for some and a week long party for others has just about everything a biker dreams of. Even though the Blackthorne Resorts grounds are large, they do fill up fast and Bikers reserve there Cabins, RV sites or Camp sites up to a year in advance just to make sure there is room for them on the grounds. (There are plenty of other resorts in the area who welcome the Biker overflow from the Blackthorne) Me and my Brother Mopar Tom arrived on Thursday Night and the first thing We did was to check out what seemed like a million vendors, Who where selling every thing from Motorcycle pins to fully Custom Motorcycles.Then of course it was time to grab some cold beverages. First drink was at the Tikki Bar by the large in-ground pool. The Second was at the Blackthorne's on premise full service bar. Not wanting to over do it on my first night there (I would save that for my second night) I called it an early night at around 2am and was off to get some shut eye.

On Friday the fuse was lit and the weekend festivities got into full swing. I spent the day wandering around the Blackthorne checking ever thing out drinking and partying with Hundreds of new and old friends. As the sun went down and the Night began things just got better! I watched Bikers take their Motorcycles up in the air and do Ariel Burn outs as I listened to the Music of Molly Hatchet LIVE !

The Nights at Blackthorne Run late and the Mornings come early! Some Choose to start their days off riding around the incredible Catskill Mountains, either in a group on a guided tour or by themselves with no destination at all. The roads in the Catskills go on forever and even after many years of riding them each trip still offers something new ! My favorite spot to ride to has been for many years Nicks Waterfall House in Gilboa, In my opinion no ride threw the Catskills is Complete with out a big burger and a beer at Nicks!

Others who don't wake till the afternoon can spend their day's at the Blackthorne checking out the vendors buying new Biker gear,Watching Rhett Rotten and his amazing vintage Wall of Death Motorcycle stunt show, Looking at the art work of Ron Finch,Placing their votes for their favorites in the Bike show, participating in the Bike games or enjoying a list of many other wickedly fun Biker activities. Saturday Night again offered Bikers more then they could handle plus Female Spaghetti Wrestling, Live Ultimate Fighting bouts, Lots more live music and plenty of late night partying. On Sunday some Bikers headed home while others hung around for another day of fun including a pig roast!

I have been a biker all my life. To this very day the bond of Brotherhood that is shared by bikers still stuns me. I'm not sure if the fact that the Blackthorne is a family resort every other week of the year has anything to do with it, But I found the feeling of Brotherhood and Family to be very strong at this event. When I can hangout and party with Bikers I have just met and feel like I have known them for Twenty years, It strongly reinforces all the reasons I love being a Biker!

I have left out a lot of great things about the Blackthorne and its Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally, The reason for this is because if you missed this event you do not deserve to know all its secrets until you have attended it for yourself !!! All about those Baby Car Seats - Dont be fooled Talk the Talk

Whether you're buying a car seat for your first baby or your fifth, safety is always an issue. As parents, we do all that we can to ensure the safety of our children. When it comes to picking out baby car seats , all of the terms and labels can get confusing. How can you pick the best seat for you, your baby, and your car, if you don't even know what half of the wordy descriptions mean? The following paragraphs will explane things to help you find a little clarity and simplify your choice. The terms and definitions are meant to be a guide. To ensure maximum safety for your child, speak to a customer service professional in this area and be certain that the baby car seat fits perfectly into your vehicle and that it does, in fact, meet your specific needs.

The AAP, well this term stands for the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is their recommendation that children remain rear facing in their car seats until they are one year old and 20 pounds.

Angle indicators- Device that lets parents know whether the car seat is appropriately positioned and at the right level of incline on the vehicle seat. The base is a solid plastic frame that holds and locks in the infant carrier. Can remain in the car or travel along with the infant carrier (see detachable base).

Belt positioning boosters- Booster seats that use the vehicles restraints as the child's seat belt. These are available with or without backs.

Booster seats- Smaller car seats designed for children who have outgrown the size and age limits of infant carriers and front facing car seats (4 and up). These are locked into place with the vehicle seat belt.

Car seat boot- Meant to keep the child comfy and warm, this blanket-like cover fits on the car seat and keeps baby snug.

Car seat cover- A great idea in the summer, these covers fit over the entire car seat, covering them from the sunlight coming into you car.

Car seat tote- Great for travelers, the car seat tote zips the car seat right up inside so that a passenger can check the seat in just as they would any other luggage. They are designed for easy carrying through the airport.

Combination seats- Seats designed with the interest of saving money. They provide more than one option such as a rear facing, front facing, and booster seat (see Three-In-One).

Convertible Car Seat- Just as the name says, the convertible car seat converts to another style so that parents can use one car seat instead of buying two or three.

Detachable base- (See base) Can be left in the car or at home. The car seat snaps easily in and out but the seat is also usable without the base.

Double head support- For use with car seats, strollers, and infant carriers, the soft padding provides support for baby's head and neck.

Five point harness- An option when purchasing car seats: two shoulder straps, two hips straps, one strap between legs.

Front facing- When your child has reached the weight and age limit, he or she can have their car seat turned so that they, like you, are facing the front of the car. You can buy a front facing car seat or a combination seat with this option.

Harness- The car seat straps that keep baby snuggly and safely within the seat. Not to be used on their own to secure babySeat must be secured with vehicle seat belt.

Harness adjusters- These allow you to position the harness securely and safely while it prevents the restraints from moving or twisting. Adjusters should rest parallel with baby's armpits.

Harness covers- Soft material that wraps around the harness, usually and the shoulder level, to prevent harness from 'digging in' to baby.

Harness slots- Where harness feeds through car seat. Be sure that your harness is properly attached and securely fits the child.

Head support- A soft pillow-like pad that surrounds the baby's head. Meant for car seats, infant seats, and can be used in strollers. Keeps baby's head secure.

Infant carriers- Car seats for newborn babies, but can be used until child is up to 22 pounds (check individual car seat for weight restrictions).

Installation- Refers to how the car seat is placed and secured in your vehicle. If uncertain of how to install, discuss with a customer service specialist and always read directions.

Integrated seats- Car seats that can be custom built right into your vehicle.

LATCH- Stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, which refers to a way of securing the car seat to the vehicle with straps or tethers.

Leveler- A long, round, pillow like device that rests on the vehicle seat to even out the car seat and prevent it from leaning too far one way.

Manufacturer- The company responsible for making your car seat. They generally provide your warranty.

Model- The style of car seat which you purchase. (i.e. Cosco Infant carrier: Infant carrier is the model, Cosco is the make).

Night sight- A car mirror system designed to allow you to see baby in the back seat, at night, while you are driving.

Overhead shield- A large arm rest like shield that comes down over the baby's head and rests on the car seat, just above baby's legs.

Proper fit- How the car seat fits into your vehicle and whether or not it shifts and is securely fastened.

Rain shield- Designed for infant carriers, they cover the baby from the rain and zip up around the carrier.

Rear facing- Larger car seats for when baby has outgrown the infant carrier, but still must remain rear facing. You can purchase a rear facing or a combination seat.

Recall- When a product has been called back by the manufacturer because a defect or problem has been identified. It is important to fill out your warranty card in case a recall is necessary.

Restraints- Seat belts that hold the child or the car seat in place.

Safety mirrors- Mirrors that attach to your car visor so that you may see baby in the back seat while you are driving.

Safety seats- Another term for car seats.

Seat protectors- A plastic guard to protect the vehicle seat from any sort of damage from the car seat. Rests between vehicle seat and car seat.

Seat shade- A device that shields baby's car seat from the hot sun while your car is parked.

Shield boosters- A booster seat that is equipped with a full five point harness.

Sit and stroll- A convenient combination set that includes an infant carrier that sits in and detaches easily from a baby stroller.

Six point harness- Car seat comes with six straps: two at shoulder, two at hips, and two between legs.

Size limit- The height and weight restrictions placed upon individual car seats. Not all car seats have the same height and weight limits.be sure to look for this information.

T shield- A plastic shield that rests on child's chest and is attached to the harness to keep straps from moving or shifting.

Tether straps- Anchors that attach to the vehicle and the car seat so that car seat is more secure. (Many vehicles now come with built in tethers; if not you should have one installed.)

Three in One- A car seat that offers three options: rear facing, front facing, and booster.

Three point harness- Has three straps: two at shoulders, one between legs.

Toy bars- Toys that can hook on and attach to the car seat for baby's amusement.

Travel systems- Offers a combination pack where you can purchase an infant carrier and a stroller all in one. (See sit and stroll.)

Travel toys- Toys that can provide pleasure for the baby and easily attach to infant carriers.

Travel vests- A safety system for older vehicles that only contain lap belts rather than lap and shoulder belts.

Warranty- Given by the manufacturer, it guarantees the product in specific areas for a given amount of time.

Weight limit- The maximum capacity that the car seat can hold.
